There and Back Again...
With a meager amount of money, a backpack, my thumb and a casual connection to the world - I headed over to New Zealand to see a bit of that fair, green land. Turns out, the good folks of NZ have a really cool ethos when it comes to how they interact with their environment and food. I was hooked.
After graduating from Mountain View High School in Mesa Arizona, I took the cash I earned from working the summer in Williams, Arizona and hit the trail. I landed in NZ in September and planned to stay till December.
Once in New Zealand, I spent time roaming the hinterlands, hitchhiking the byways, trekking some of the planet’s most beautiful trails, and checking out any Lord of the Rings filming sites that were on my way. (I even made it to the world premiere of the Hobbit in Wellington and camped out near the red carpet.) Mostly what I connected with was a deeper appreciation of the green and growing spaces of the earth. The folks of New Zealand have a dedication to the ecology of their space that was inspiring – deep and passionate about their role in planet stewardship and preservation. That resonates with me.
So here I am back home in the beautiful deserts of Arizona and ready for what’s next. I start college the fall of 2013 to pursue a botany degree and am also doing a bit of farming as well as providing fresh, local, organic produce to the community out here in the East Valley of the Phoenix Metro area. Since I have begun to advance these objectives, the most brilliant and amazing people have stepped forward to support my nascent endeavors! Thanks to the team of folks who are rallying with me to do well while doing good – together we are growing good things, eating well, and learning about living a bit lighter, healthier and happier on earth.
